1st Annual Philippines Parachuting PHun PHestival

6 10 2010

Chicken little look out !!! No the sky is not falling but the month of November might give Chicken Little some cause for concern. Sky divers from around the world will be gathering at the Subic Bay Freeport for the 1st Annual Philippines Parachuting PHun Phestival. The event will run from November 6 to 20th with Jump dates of: Nov 8, 9, 10, 13, 14, 15, 18, and 19. A couple of world record attempts will be made on the 13th. One of the record attempts during the Phun Phestival skydiving, it is hoped to match a tandem skydiving World record for the youngest jumper – a 3 year-old has

volunteered to jump with his father – proving that age is no barrier to a thirst for experience. The big attraction is skydiving, offering the perceptibly safer (for beginners) tandem-skydiving opportunity over Subic Bay International Airport. According to the organizers they have invited a host of famous names to jump with them and many have accepted the invitation.

The event is being organized locally by Adrenoline Island Adventure with logistical assistance from Seahorse Tours. Sheldon Rice, the operations manager Adrenoline Island Adventure, is a sky diving instructor with thousands of students trained. According to Rice: “The Philippines Phun Phestival is quite unlike anything else that has been organized in the country and is designed to satisfy the adrenaline junkies who would normally travel abroad to get their fix, and to entice those who do not yet know that they need a fix. This is going to be an Annual Boogie that will progressively set and break records on a yearly basis. A FreeFly Friendly, SWOOP Friendly, Boogie that offers everything that an exotic skydiving boogie has to offer. Tropical weather, beach landings, 25cent beers, great nightlife, and plenty of extras!”.

It will also satisfy the spectators. Each year the Hot Air Balloon festival is held at Clark in Angeles City, it took a few years to get growing but now it is one of the biggest events in Asia. Yes the draw for the event is the hot air balloons, but not as much as most people would think. The balloons generally fly at sunrise and sunset the best time for the hot air flights, but not the best time for people. What keeps the people interest during the day are the other flight related activities and the one with the most enthusiastic crowds is the parachuting. And now you can try it your self . For the modest sum of Php12,000 you can jump out of a perfectly serviceable aircraft and feel the rush as the ground approaches. You can get discounts if you bring your friends, and if there are ten of you then you jump for free.

Spectators are invited out to the Subic Bay International Airport entrance gate 3 by the beached each day that there is a jump plan. They will have an opportunity to talk with the sky divers and see close up the preparations involved jumpers will be landing at an area very close to the preparation area so spectators will be able to see it all. Many of the divers will take a short cut back to their hotels on the last jump of the day. These sunset jumps will give the jumpers the option of landing on the beach at Moonbay Marina near the Subic Park hotel

The international partner in this event is Exotic Sky Adventures . Based in Europe they are well know in the sky diving community for their annual boogies (a term meant to a sky diving event). They do one major event in an exotic location generally on a coast. Sky divers can register or get more information at their website.

Summer At Subic Bay Philippines

14 04 2010

Subic Bay Beaches and Resorts greet Visitors and Tourist at the start of the summer vacation season.  In the Philippines most people look at Holy Week (Easter) as the kick off to the summer, School is out, the weather hot and the beaches are calling. The Subic Bay area ,which includes parts of Bataan, Olongapo city, the Subic Bay Freeport and parts of Zambales, are a prime tourist destination and one of the most popular in the Philippines. The popularity can be attributed to many factors however the variety of activities and accommodations combined with the ease to get to from Manila ( by car), Cebu (air) and nearby countries such as Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia.

The City of Olongapo relaunched the Halfmoon beach. Having been closed for a number of years the beach was partially reopened two years ago. However the area opened was small, had no parking and access was along a bamboo bridge following a small stream. This year the beach is accessible from the main road with a parking lot provided, and many times for space both on the beach and in a area shaded by trees. It is now the biggest beach in the area and is easy to get to by public transportation.
Vacation goers this year will see their old standards: the Ocean Adventure and Zoobic Safari theme parks, water sports  and jungle activities supplemented by new attractions and resorts. Ocean Adventure has added new attractions to the park. The highly popular high dive show from last year is now back as a permanent portion of the park with its own stadium. They have also added an area for groups that has its own beach (http://www.subicbaybeaches.com ) area. While over in their resort Camayan Beach resort they have recently opened more rooms and expanded services offered.

Water Slide at White Rock Beach Resort Subic

One big improvement is at White Rock Resort. Always been a great place but they have been expanding, added a number of seaside rooms and other features. Last year they added a wave pool and water slide, for this year they have added another. It is a full waterpark and a beach resort together, offers a wide range of water sports and has its own bowling alley, can easily hold groups of a thousand with out crowding the resort.

The Barrio Barretto portion of Olongapo (http://www.visitsubic.com ) is expanding also, this season sees a few new small beaches and a couple of new Resorts. Subic Grand Seas is a new resort with very nice rooms , a waterfront deck, nice beach and swimming

pool. The old resort was basically torn down and the new hotel started from scratch. It is a great place to enjoy the sunset. The “old’ favorites such as Arizona International hotel and resort is still going great and their Mai Tai grill very popular, enjoy a meal poolside and enjoy the views of the bay.

Recently the MICE industry, that’s Meetings Incentives Conventions and Exhibitions, held MICECON2010, their annual convention at Subic Bay. When the leaders of an industry that deals with conventions hold their own convention somewhere that a sure sign that you are on the map as an destination.

All of this shows that Subic Bay is the place to head this summer. Seahorse (http://www.seahorsetours.com ) tours is ready to help you with your summer plans. We can find you the best places to stay for you or even your whole company. So if you are looking for a week end getaway or spending a week or two, Subic Bay is the place
